Edwards also remains active as a researcher. He has presented his research findings at the IRCAM Forum Workshops (Seoul/Paris), the Orpheus Institut (Belgium), the ACL Annual Conference 2007 (New Zealand), as well as at various universities and conservatories including the Royal Conservatory (The Hague, the Netherlands), University for Music and the Performing Arts (Vienna), Lübeck Musikhochschule (Lübeck, Germany), Hanyang University (Seoul), University of Suwon (South Korea), and LaSalle College of the Arts (Singapore). He has published his research findings in the journals Perspectives of New Music and Experiments in Pedagogy.
Edwards was born in New York and studied composition at Northwestern University; the University of California, San Diego; and the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany. His principal composition teachers were Chaya Czernowin and Nicolaus A. Huber.
At the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Edwards teaches studio (major study) composition, collaborative composition, experimental music, and computer music. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Edwards is the director of the Dian Red Kechil International Young Composers Residency, hosted at the Conservatory. To enhance students’ opportunities and experiences, he also organises visits by major figures in contemporary music. These have included the TIMF Ensemble (South Korea), Elision Ensemble (UK/Australia), Ensemble Interface (Germany), guitarist Magnus Andersson (Sweden), clarinetist Carl Rosman (Australia/Germany), and composers Chaya Czernowin (Harvard University), Liza Lim (University of Huddersfield), Aaron Cassidy (University of Huddersfield), and Joshua Fineberg (Boston University).
